Spots

The street spots that made Jacksonville skating, past and present. Most downtown plazas are skate-stopped now and post No Skateboarding signs, so be respectful, leave when security asks, and keep the secret spots secret.

James Weldon Johnson Park (Hemming Park)

James Weldon Johnson Park (Hemming Park)

Skate-stopped Downtown core

Jacksonville's oldest city park, called Hemming Park until 2020, and the center of downtown street skating for years. It hosted Go Skate Day from 2012 to 2016, and its handrails were so well known that the rails at Artist Walk copy them.

Skate-stopped St. James Building

The plaza in front of City Hall, across the street from James Weldon Johnson Park. Complaints about skating here led to the 2016 push to ban skateboarding downtown.

Flossie DIY

Gone Flossie Brunson Eastside Park

A DIY park that local skaters built on the old tennis courts at Flossie Brunson Eastside Park, with regular cleanup and build days. It has since been demolished. The Jax DIY campaign is raising money for a new city-approved DIY spot.
